I wrote this song several years ago to play as a flash talk for a company meetup. The music is from the song “Pure Imagination” from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. But the lyrics are based on the Automattic Creed and capture why I’ve enjoyed working at Automattic for the past eleven years.

Open source, will of course, be the engine of our innovation...
We'll succeed without need for co-location...

If you want to earn revenue...
make some useful things and sell them...
find your target market, tell them...
If you do it well... it will compel them...

We'll recall, through it all, from the days before we all knew everything...
See the goal, there's the way...
Step-by-step and every day...

This is all a grand experiment...
A never-ending love of learning...
impacting as much as earning...
treat our users well, they'll keep returning...

There is no status quo, nor a problem that is insurmountable...
Just commit, and you’ll see
