I bought a new acoustic guitar over the holidays. I wasn’t in the market and I honestly didn’t mean to. But I was at a music store checking out bass guitars and the guy pointed out this used acoustic for me to try. It’s made by Furch, a company in the Czech Republic.
I had never heard of them, but I tried the guitar and it sounded amazing. It was perfect up and down the neck. It was buttery-smooth to play. I think it made my guitar playing sound better. I honestly love my Taylor guitar, but this one sounded and played just a step above.
I came home and told my wife about it, and she pushed me to go back and buy it. I don’t buy myself a lot of things. And I definitely get good use out of my instruments.
Anyway, here is my first recording on the new guitar. This is an instrumental I wrote in drop-D tuning. It opens and closes on a Maj7 chord and makes heavy use of 6th chords. That gives it a sad, sort of bittersweet quality. I don’t actually think or write in these terms. I hardly know any music theory. My ear knows what I want to hear and my fingers know how to make that sound. But then I look it up later to figure out what the heck I did.
I didn’t play it perfectly (one take), but it’s close enough for horseshoes.
