I’m trying to get into a regular habit of recording and posting. Even if it’s just works-in-progress. So I spend a little time before my work day.
This one is an original that I like to play on a classical (nylon string) guitar. I think it has a bit of a Bill Withers vibe. The lyrics are probably the most hopeless lyrics of anything I’ve written. I didn’t play it perfectly, but trying not to let perfection get in the way of good.
Here are the lyrics and the recording.
Any Other Way
See the people go round and round
While they follow the spiral down
There’s a hollow and empty sound
As they’re swallowed into the ground
And all the people say
We’ve never done it any other way
People telling you want to do
Try to sell you their point of view
Better follow their plan for you
Or they’ll give you a talking to
And all the people say
We’ve never done it any other way
Don’t you know who you’re talking to
Turn your gaze while they’re walking through
Clean the cage you’ve been locked into
They told you to
They're watching you
And all the people say we’ve never done it any other way
See the dollars go round and round
Never settling on the ground
bread and circuses all around
while they're keeping the rabble down
And all the people say
We’ve never done it any other way
Don’t forget who you’re talking to
Give a bow when they're walking through
Say a prayer for the chosen few
They're watching you
They’re listening too
And all the people say we’ve never done it any other way
