I spent this past weekend in McKinney, Texas, with my buddy Andy Guarnera at his studio, Bad Beat Lab. The beats were in fact not bad.
The recording process was a lot harder than I expected. I was exhausted by the end of it. And the fingertips on my left hand are basically made of concrete now.
My rhythm needs a lot of work, so I guess maybe my beats were bad. I’m used to playing solo and haven’t spent enough time playing against click-tracks. I’ve gotta prioritize that for practicing, because I was all over the place. But I knew this would be a learning process, so it wasn’t a huge surprise.
Now it’s in Andy’s hands, and we’ll go back and forth on mixing and adding other elements. That’s the production process. I’m looking forward to sharing the songs with y’all.
